Another common issue is when the brake pedal feels soft or sinks too close to the floor — sometimes known as “spongy brakes.” This often happens when the master cylinder leaks hydraulic fluid, so there isn’t enough pressure in the lines. Of course, the most obvious sign is that the brake light illuminates. It could signal that your emergency brake is engaged, or there could be a serious, underlying issue.
